MEET THE OWNER

David Gigowski (Gig)

Gig joined the Interstate Batteries family in the late 1970s as a corporate office employee. His first job was simple- sweeping the floors, painting bathrooms, and any other menial task. Once he started learning about batteries, training in sales, learning the business model, and working in the warehouse, Gig knew he was where he was meant to be.

As he continued to improve, learn, and grow, he learned a personal and priceless lesson from the founder of Interstate Batteries, John Searcy, whose philosophy continues to influence how Gig runs his franchise: “It is never about the batteries; it is always about the customer- it’s about the relationship.”

Opportunities opened up for Gig and he began traveling to help franchise owners open their new businesses. This gave way to building valuable relationships and eventual close friendships he holds to this day. However, he had a decision to make- continue working for the corporate office or become a distributor himself. He soon found himself stuck between a rock and hard place – did he have the entrepreneurial spirit needed to build a franchise or should he stay with those with whom he had built valuable relationships?

Gig and his wife Bernita fell in love with the hometown feel of Lakeland. He was all-in on growing the franchise to serve his territory. His start was slow but he kept John Searcy’s wisdom at the forefront of how he did business. Year by year of building personal relationships within his new community, Gig and his team have created a successful franchise built on integrity and hard work.

However, Gig’s franchise success isn’t about personal gain. It has always been about loving and serving the Lord and His people in multiple capacities such as hosting an annual charity golf tournament for the Noah’s Ark community, supporting missionaries around the world, and tithing to his home church. Since starting in 1994 to today, Interstate Batteries Systems of Lakeland continues to be a leader in the community, supplying small businesses and corporations with superior products and integrity-driven service.
